Casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ.”
— 2 Corinthians 10:5 NKJV
We are living in a time of great deception. There are voices everywhere. They sound like fear, confusion, compromise, accusation, and discouragement. And sometimes, the loudest voice isn’t coming from outside of us.
It’s the voice in our own thoughts.
The enemy wants to plant thoughts that contradict what God has said and convince us to believe them as truth.
“God has forgotten you.”
“You will never change.”
“You’re not good enough.”
“Nothing is going to work out.”
“You have to take matters into your own hands.”
“God won’t forgive you this time.”
But here is where we have to stop and ask:
Does this thought line up with the Word of God?
We don’t have to believe every thought that enters our minds.
We take it captive.
We examine it.
We confront it.
We compare it to Scripture.
And if it doesn’t agree with God’s Word, we reject it.
The Bible doesn’t tell us to entertain every thought. It tells us to bring every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ.
That’s intentional.
You don’t have to agree with a thought simply because you thought it.
You don’t have to accept a lie simply because you’ve believed it for years.
You don’t have to build your identity around something someone said about you.
Anchor yourself in the Word because the Word does not lie.
God’s Word is the standard—not your emotions, your circumstances, your past, someone else’s opinion, or the enemy’s accusations.
When your thoughts say, “I am rejected,”check the Word.
When your thoughts say, “I am alone,”check the Word.
When your thoughts say, “There is no hope,” check the Word.
When your thoughts say, “God isn’t moving,” check the Word.
Don’t simply believe it. Take it captive.
Check Your Heart Daily
We need to develop the habit of checking our hearts and examining our thoughts daily.
“Search me, O God, and know my heart; Try me, and know my anxieties.”
— Psalm 139:23 NKJV
Ask yourself:
What have I been thinking?
What have I been believing?
What have I been agreeing with?
Does it line up with God’s Word?
Sometimes the enemy doesn’t need to change our circumstances. He only needs to change what we believe about them.
That’s why we must stay anchored in truth.
The Word of God is your anchor in a deceptive world.
When the world says one thing and God’s Word says another, choose the Word.
When your feelings say one thing and God’s Word says another, choose the Word.
When the enemy whispers a lie, take the thought captive.
Don’t give a lie permission to become a belief.
Don’t allow a belief to become a stronghold.
And don’t allow a stronghold to become your identity.
If it doesn’t line up with God’s Word, I don’t have to believe it.
Today’s Reflection
What thought have I been believing that may not line up with God’s Word?
What lie has the enemy repeatedly whispered to me?
What does Scripture say that directly contradicts that lie?
Am I allowing my circumstances or emotions to become my truth?
What thought do I need to take captive today?
Prayer 🙏🏾
Father, forgive me for agreeing with the lies of the enemy. Lord, I was struggling with life, and my flesh agreed with the enemy’s lies. I allowed my feelings to become bigger than Your Word. Your Word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path. In other words, it guides me in the right direction.
Lord, thank You for always looking out for me and leading me into ALL truth. I ask that You check my heart daily. If my heart is not in agreement with Your Word, then I lay that issue at the cross.
You are my anchor and my strong tower. I will obey You, and my thoughts will line up with Your Word. I will intentionally take every thought captive that does not line up with Your Word. In the Mighty Name of Jesus, Amen.
