Are There Cracks in Your Foundation?

I love the song “Firm Foundation.” The lyrics always remind me that my foundation is solid as long as I maintain my relationship with Jesus for He alone is my builder and maker.

Unfortunately, when we neglect that relationship with the builder, cracks can begin to appear. Earlier this week, I discovered a crack in my own foundation. It was one I thought was gone, but because I neglected certain areas, it reappeared. The good news is I recognized it and I surrendered it to the Lord.

When God reveals a crack in your foundation, don’t hide it or ignore it. Hand it over to Him and allow the Master Builder to do what only He can do, fix it!

Our spiritual foundation determines whether we stand firm when storms come or crumble under pressure. Jesus reminds us that hearing His Word and obeying it is the true test of a life built on solid ground. Yet, cracks will sometimes appear, through subtle compromises, neglected prayer, unhealed wounds, or misplaced trust.

Cracks don’t mean total collapse, but they are warnings. The Holy Spirit uses them to call us back to inspection and repair through repentance, surrender, and intimacy with Christ. Just as a builder checks the strength of a foundation, we are invited to examine our lives to see if Christ is truly at the center, holding everything together.

Friend, don’t be discouraged by the cracks. See them as God’s loving invitation to let Him restore your foundation in Christ.

Reflective Questions:

1. What storms in my life have revealed cracks in my foundation?

2. Am I consistently nurturing my relationship with the Master Builder?

3. Have I mistaken cracks for collapse instead of seeing them as an invitation to deeper surrender?

4. What step can I take today to strengthen my foundation, prayer, fasting, Scripture, or community?

Father,

I thank You that Jesus is my solid Rock and firm foundation. Lord, reveal any cracks that compromise my walk with You. Heal areas where I have neglected our relationship, and restore me in Your strength. I surrender my weak places and trust You as the Master Builder to fix what I cannot. Keep me grounded in Your Word and Spirit so I may stand strong in every season. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
