Don’t Waste Your Wilderness Season

Many times, we feel as though we’ve been in the wilderness forever. I felt that way just a few weeks ago. I found myself anxious, unsettled, and even complaining. My spirit felt shaken. But when I finally sat still before the Lord and cried out to Him—like David did—I began to see what was really happening.

What I thought was punishment was actually God stripping me. Removing the things I didn’t realize I was depending on. He doesn’t always move in the same way. He is God, and we are not. In His sovereignty, He knows exactly how to prepare His children for the next season.

Every believer will face a wilderness, a time when God seems silent, resources feel scarce, and the familiar comforts fade. But what feels like isolation is often divine preparation. The wilderness isn’t meant to destroy you; it’s designed to develop you.

Jesus was led into the wilderness by the Spirit. That means the wilderness isn’t a detour; it’s divine direction. There, He fasted, prayed, and overcame every temptation by standing on the Word of God. When He emerged, He came out in the power of the Spirit (Luke 4:14).

So don’t waste your wilderness by complaining or comparing. Let God do the deep work in your heart. Allow Him to expose what cannot go with you into the next season, attitudes, fears, and unbelief.

You may feel stripped, but you’re being strengthened. You may feel crushed, but you’re being anointed. Every test is training you for greater authority and spiritual maturity.

Reflection:

• What is God trying to teach me in this season?

• Am I allowing the Spirit to shape my character while I wait?

• How can I use this time to grow closer to God instead of growing weary?

Prayer:

Lord, help me not to despise the process. Even when I don’t understand, teach me to trust You in the wilderness. Refine me, mold me, and prepare me for the season ahead. In Jesus’ name, amen.
