What Happened When I Saw 888?

In Scripture, numbers are never random. They carry deep spiritual meaning.

The number 888 is more than just digits, it’s a divine signature. In Greek, the name Jesus (Ἰησοῦς) adds up to 888, pointing to His resurrection power, His promise of new beginnings, and His perfect plan.

On Monday, July 29, near the end of the workday, we received a tsunami warning. An 8.8 magnitude earthquake had struck off the coast of Russia, and Hawaii was directly in the path of a potential wave.

Inside my office, the atmosphere shifted instantly. Supervisors scrambled, unsure of what to do. Eventually, we were released for safety.

As I drove home, traffic was gridlocked, parents rushing to get their children, people gathering pets, all while fear hung heavy in the air.

Then the Holy Spirit caught my attention. A car merged in front of me. I don’t remember the first three characters on its license plate, but I will never forget the last three: 888.

Immediately, I smiled. I knew eight represents new beginnings. I texted a friend, and she reminded me: “Mary, in Greek, 888 represents Jesus.”

At that moment, the Holy Spirit whispered:

“I’m covering you. I go before you.”

The car was literally in front of me. Jesus was leading the way, covering me, and protecting me. The spirit of fear that tried to grip me instantly broke off, and peace flooded my heart.

When I reached higher ground, I sat in my car, listened to worship music, and thanked God for sending me that personal sign of His presence. The car with the 888 plate disappeared as suddenly as it appeared, but the message stayed:

Jesus goes before me, He covers me, and I am safe in His arms.

Reflection Questions

Pause and reflect on these this week:

• Where do you need a fresh start that only Jesus can bring?

• How can you walk in step with the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit each day?

• When has God shown His perfect timing in your life?

Prayer

Father, thank You for the reminder in 888, Jesus alive, going before me, covering me, and securing my future. Help me to walk in new beginnings daily, reflect Your love and unity, and trust You in every storm. Just as You gave me peace on that day, remind me always that I am safe in Your arms. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
