Just Keep Showing Up!!!

“Draw near to God, and He will draw near to you.” — James 4:8 (NKJV)

Can I confess something?

I shared this in my book, 40 Days of Prayer for the Prodigal. Sometimes… I don’t want to pray.

Seriously. I just don’t.

There are days when I become weary. Days when my flesh wants to do anything but seek the Lord. I used to think I was the only one who felt that way.

Then I heard a teaching this week that reminded me of something so freeing: everyone feels that way sometimes. The difference is they keep showing up.

And do you know what happens when you keep showing up?

God shows up.

Life has a way of overwhelming us. Sometimes the weight of circumstances leaves us with no words. No strength. No motivation. But I’ve learned that God isn’t asking us to pretend. He’s inviting us to be honest.

One day I simply laid it all before Him.

“Lord, I’m tired. I don’t know what to do in this moment. But I’m here… and I know You are faithful.”

That’s all I had.

And He met me there.

His presence became so tangible that I was overwhelmed by His peace. The Holy Spirit wrapped me in His comfort, and I knew deep within my spirit that everything was going to be okay.

Not because my circumstances changed immediately, but because I encountered the faithfulness of a loving Father.

Friend, maybe that’s where you are today.

Maybe you don’t feel like praying.

Maybe you don’t have the words.

Maybe you’re exhausted from believing, waiting, or standing for your prodigal.

Keep showing up.

Be honest with the Lord about where you are. He already knows your thoughts, your fears, and your weariness. Tell Him exactly what’s happening in your heart. Ask Him to help you want to pray. Ask Him to give you the desire to seek Him again.

He isn’t offended by your honesty.

Just look at David.

Throughout the Psalms, David poured out every emotion imaginable. He questioned. He grieved. He cried. He even expressed anger and confusion. Yet he never stopped coming before God.

He kept showing up.

And God called David “a man after My own heart.” Not because David was perfect, but because he continually returned to the presence of God with an honest heart.

Perhaps that’s the invitation for all of us today.

Not perfection.

Not polished prayers.

Just faithful presence.

So today, will you show up?

Even if all you can say is, “Lord, I’m here.”

That’s enough for Him to meet you there.

Prayer

Father, thank You that I don’t have to hide my weaknesses from You. Thank You for welcoming me even when I feel weary, discouraged, or don’t know what to pray. Help me to keep showing up. Give me a fresh desire to seek You, and remind me that Your presence is always available. Meet me in my honesty, strengthen my heart, and fill me again with the peace of Your Holy Spirit. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
